CAMBRIDGE

Cambridge is a city in the Waterloo Region, located at the convergence of the Speed River and Grand River.

 Cambridge was founded in 1973 by the amalgamation of the 3 cities Galt, Preston, and Hespeler. Galt was the first city which had became a part of Cambridge, forming along the Grand River. In the early 1800s, the Grand River provided a rich power supply creating a wealth of jobs and need for tradesman which ultimately attracted many European immigrants. The city is the home to several industrial companies including Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, which is the city's largest employer. Other large employers included Canadian General Tower, Babcock and Wilcox, Honeywell, Gore Mutual Insurance and Loblaws distribution plant. Cambridge encourages the filming of movies and TV shows, with many filmmakers coming to the city for the unique European appearance of the buildings, along with the proximity to Toronto. Cambridge is known for being a modern community, being the gateway to Canada's Technology Triangle, however maintains its small town charm. The city has a goal of creating a sustainable business climate, where the work done today isn't to inhibit the growth of the community in the future.
